Frequently Asked Questions
What is a broken link? ▼
A broken link (dead link) is a hyperlink that no longer works — it returns a 404 Not Found, server error, or times out. They damage SEO rankings, user experience, and site credibility.
Why does this tool only check 50 links? ▼
50 links covers most single pages thoroughly while staying fast and free for everyone. We're rate-limited to 10 scans per IP per day to keep the service running smoothly.
Why does it show "Redirect" instead of broken? ▼
3xx redirects (301, 302) are followed automatically. If the final destination is reachable, the link is marked OK. If the chain fails, it's marked broken.
What does "Timeout" mean? ▼
The server didn't respond within 10 seconds. This could be a slow server, a firewall blocking crawlers, or a genuinely dead host.
How do I fix broken links? ▼
Update the href to the correct URL, redirect the old URL, or remove the link entirely. Regular checks (monthly) keep your site healthy.
